On 24th March 2023, An Giang Central General Hospital held an inauguration ceremony of RO water system – Phoenix one DS + and the Workshop titled, “Cardiovascular: Renal – metabolic syndrome”.

This is one of the largest RO water system used in artificial kidney dialysis in South East Asia. Water is an indispensable part of dialysis – but in order to avoid complications, it should be of an ultra-pure quality.

The renowned An Giang Hospital in Vietnam, providing dialysis to about 350 patients regularly, understands this and recently installed Nipro’s Phoenix One DS – a single-stage reverse osmosis (RO) system – to provide better treatment to its patients. The Phoenix One DS is the first high-end product for this market and will provide quality treatment to patients.

On the day of the inauguration, there was also a renal seminar that attracted over 230 doctors. On this historic occasion, Nipro Vietnam was present in great numbers. Joining in attendance from Nipro’s regional team were Mahendra Gunatilleke, Rüdiger Tille and Jesus Garcia Martin.

Here’s the news report of the grand inauguration that was aired on a local television channel in Vietnam: http://ow.ly/NiiZ50NNJop you can choose to view it with subtitles (CC) or preferred auto-translation.

This marks the first time that Nipro has participated in a SingLIVE event with an expanding vascular intervention portfolio that was featured during a live case, an event booth, and a symposium. On the first day of the event at 10:15a.m., alive case using the Makoto Intravascular Imaging System and Aperta NSE was live streamed by the NHCS.

The live case was performed by Clinical Associate Prof. Jack Tan and his team from the National Heart Centre. The NHCS operation team showcased the Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS)-guided Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), its application as a coronary imaging tool as well as tips and tricks on its utilization. Makoto utilizes NIRS in combination with intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is a state-of-the-art technology developed for coronary lipid-plaque characterization.

Recent studies have evaluated its clinical utility as well as how to integrate its use into clinical practice. The information for the prediction of the major adverse cardiac event (MACE) was something new and more than 100 audience members gathered to see the live case, which brought the discussion among the panelists on how the information provided by Makoto could change the treatment plan.

The day followed with Nipro’s symposium titled “Seeing is believing: Lesion preparation and Lipid core detection”. The in-depth presentation was made by A. Prof. Kosuke Koyama who talked about clinical studies of IVUS-NIRS technology, and Dr. Satoru Tohara who presented findings about Aperta NSE as a preferred scoring balloon.

On November 4th 2022, a one-day continuous medical education (CME) for dialysis staffs was held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

With the full cooperation and assistance of Nepal Police Hospital, the CME was hosted at the hospital by Nipro Asia Pte Ltd Nepal Liaison Office (NIPRO) and its distributor G.H. Medihealth Concern Pvt Ltd, inviting 46 staffs from 9 hospitals in Kathmandu.

“In order to provide better service to patients, we have wanted to provide opportunities to dialysis nurses and technicians to have education on dialysis service and we are glad that we hosted such opportunity here at our hospital.”, said Dr. Diba Sharma, the chief dialysis unit nephrologist at Nepal Police Hospital.

“In Nepal, education to dialysis staffs used to be provided periodically by the government leading hospitals but it has been suspended since the pandemic of the COVID-19. Our staffs voluntarily from time to time held the knowledge sharing time among staffs but it seemed it was not sufficient in terms of receiving fresh knowledge. We have used NIPRO’s dialysis machines since 2008, and that’s why we asked NIPRO if they can hold a CME for us”, she continued.

She also proposed to invite staffs from other government hospitals as the lack of opportunities to receive education is the problem that every hospital is facing. Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Asha Singh, the Medical Director of Nepal Police Hospital, nurses and technicians from 8 government hospitals besides Police Hospital were invited to the CME and the 45 staffs participated in the tender.

The CME was started with the opening statement by Dr. Asha Singh and Dr. Diba Sharma, followed by technical training on NIPRO dialysis machine “Surdial 55Plus” by Er. Sishir Humagain, Service Engineer of Nipro Asia Nepal Liason Office, and workshop on vascular access care and technique by Mr. Anthony Inbaraj, Clinical Manager of Nipro Asia Pte Ltd.

The technical training was targeted to technicians focusing on structures of circuits and troubleshooting so that technicians can make proper analysis in case of errors in daily practice, while the workshop provides epidemiology, statistics regarding vascular access and hands-on session of access technique.

    Although it was the first CME hosted at a hospital, the CME ended with satisfaction of participants, who feedbacked positively;

“This CME was a great opportunity and experience to better understand the machines”,
“These type of training programs should be encouraged and done again”,
“Understanding on the diagram and circuit of the machines is helpful in troubleshooting”,
“Statistical data of vascular access was new to me and quite interesting”.

“NIPRO has been in Nepal for more than 10 years and we recently established a liaison office. We are ready to provide better service than anyone in the market. As some customer feedbacked, the education must be continuous. We are going to provide CME not only in Kathmandu but also in provincial areas and this is the first step”, concluded Mr. Tsuchiya Seigo, Managing Director of Nipro Asia Pte Ltd.

A day-long conference titled, “International CME on Kidney Disease and Hemodialysis” was held in Dhaka on Monday, 29 August, 2022. The conference was organized by Bangladesh Renal Association and powered by NIPRO-JMI Medical Limited, a Japan-Bangladesh joint venture company.

Representative speaker & Executive Director of NIPRO JMI Medical Ltd, Kunio (Kenny) Takamido started the session to introduce Nipro Corporation and its product range. Distinguished speakers at the conference discussed how to avoid kidney disease and ensure affordable renal care. The sessions at the international conference were on “Water quality in hemodialysis – Correlation between high-quality water and affordable care”; “Dialyzer – Effective selection to better patients’ outcome for affordable care; and the world knowledge” and the recent trend of dialysis, with real international case studies from Singapore, Europe, and Japan.

Joining the panel was Ahmed Showki Arnob, MRCSEd from Kettering General Hospital Northamptonshire, United Kingdom; Dr. M. Muhibur Rahman, Professor of Nephrology, Popular Medical College and Hospital; Dr. Srinivas Subramanian, Director and Physician of Dr. Sri’s Kidney and Medical Clinic, Parkway East Hospital, Singapore; Dr. Behram Ali Khan, Medical Director of The National Kidney Foundation, Singapore; presented their papers and experience as the speakers at the conference.

Attending the event was President of Bangladesh Renal Association and Professor of Nephrology Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Dr. Muhammad Rafiqul Alam attended the conference as the chief guest, while Secretary General of Bangladesh Renal Association and Professor of Nephrology Department of BSMMU Dr. K B M Hadiuzzaman as special guests.

They also suggested creating awareness about kidney disease and starting treatment at the early stage of the disease.

Speakers also urged the physicians as well as businesses to work in a combined approach to fulfill the government’s vision to ensure no kidney patient will die without treatment. The conclusion of the session had invited 150 nephrologists with high interest.
